New York State Police troopers from Haverstraw received a report on Sunday, Jan. 20 of a vehicle that was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of the Palisades Interstate Parkway in Stony Point.
Upon arrival at the scene, police said that troopers found the vehicle - driven by East Rutherford, New Jersey resident Jason Bates, II - in the center median, facing southbound near the Visitor’s Center.
According to police, as the troopers approached the vehicle, Bates exited the vehicle and became combative. Following a physical confrontation, Bates was taken into police custody and arrested. The investigation into bates found that he was impaired by drugs.
Bates was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment, driving while ability impaired by drugs, disorderly conduct, assault, harassment and resisting arrest. Following his processing and arraignment, Bates was remanded to the Rockland County Jail without bail.
